GLENVILLE, WV -- The Gilmer County High School (GCHS) Golf Team secured their spot in the upcoming state tournament. The remarkable achievement was realized on Monday, September 25, 2023, as the team delivered a standout performance at the Regional Golf Match.
Under the leadership Coach Jacob Wolfe, the GCHS Golf Team clinched a commendable 2nd place finish at the regional level. Their combined score of 258 underscored their prowess and dedication to the sport, earning them the silver medal in the competition. Austin Stewart led the team with an impressive 82. Stewart recently placed in the top ten at the LKC Championship, earning all-conference honors.
This victory represents a significant milestone for the GCHS Golf Team, as it marks their third consecutive qualification for the state tournament. Their consistent success is a testament to the team's commitment to excellence and their rigorous training regimen.
The state tournament promises to be an exciting showdown, set to take place at the Oglebay Resort on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. As the GCHS Golf Team prepares to represent their school and community on this grand stage, the local community is encouraged to show their support.
Before the team embarks on their journey to the state tournament, a send-off has been planned for this Sunday at 3 PM, departing from Gilmer County High School. The send-off procession will travel through the heart of town and make its way to Hays City before heading towards the interstate.
The GCHS Golf Team will also appreciate the community's encouragement as they gear up for their practice round on Monday, making final preparations before the state tournament officially begins.
