Today, Governor Jim Justice visited Gilmer County High School to present a check for $724,693 from an SBA NEEDS grant. This grant will fund the acquisition of a much-needed walk-in freezer and cooler for our school.
Governor Justice's visit was not merely ceremonial; it was an opportunity for connection and inspiration. With sincerity, he shared stories from his life and words of wisdom with the GCHS student body. Above all, the Governor imparted words of encouragement aimed at inspiring students to seize opportunities in life and embrace the lessons learned from their mistakes. “I am telling you. You have got to believe in yourself and say, ‘hit me the ball’”, said Governor Justice. “Want the ball in your life. You’re going to get hit the ball sometimes in life and you screw it up. So what? Want the ball.”
Adding a touch of charm to the occasion, Governor Justice brought along the beloved "babydog," the state's cherished mascot. As the presentation concluded, students enjoyed the chance to interact with both the furry guest and the esteemed governor himself.
Our school is grateful to be chosen as NEEDS grant recipient and for the Governor's visit!
