GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Elliot Fox, currently a Senior Girl Scout member of Girl Scout Troop 10395 and student at Gilmer County High School, has earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, one of the highest honors a Girl Scout can earn.
For her Silver Award project, titled “Girl Scout Travel Guide to Washington, D.C.”, Elliot developed a practical resource to help Girl Scout troops plan affordable and accessible trips to the nation’s capital—particularly in preparation for the upcoming National Girl Scout Convention in Washington, D.C.

Elliot recognized that many Girl Scouts wanted to attend Convention but didn’t know where to start their planning or feared the trip would be too expensive. To address this, she researched lodging options, mapped METRO and Amtrak routes, and compiled cost-saving travel tips to make planning simpler and less intimidating. With guidance from her aunt who lives and works in Washington, D.C., Elliot created a guide that can be used by troops across the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council and beyond.
Through this project, Elliot honed her leadership and urban navigation skills, learning how to plan, communicate, and collaborate with Girl Scouts across different communities. Her work also promotes connection on a national scale—empowering girls to explore Washington, D.C., meet Scouts from around the world, and make lifelong memories.
The Girl Scout Silver Award represents at least 50 hours of community-centered work and is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. It recognizes leadership, initiative, and a commitment to making lasting change.
Elliot plans to continue her leadership journey as a Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout and pursue her Gold Award, the highest distinction in Girl Scouting. More information on Girl Scout Medal Awards or Girl Scouting in general can be found at www.bdgsc.org.
