Gilmer County High School – April 24, 2026

Gilmer County High School is proud to announce Ms. Morgan Allen as the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year. Now in her eighth year in education, Ms. Allen has built her career around creating a supportive, engaging environment where all students feel comfortable learning and growing.

“Education is very important to me because I saw that some very close loved ones in my life didn’t feel comfortable during their educational experience. I wanted to make sure all kids are comfortable with their education and become successful,” Allen shared.

Ms. Allen began her teaching career in Calhoun County at Arnoldsburg Elementary, where she taught second grade with a focus on social studies and reading. In 2020, she transitioned to Gilmer County Schools, where she started in sixth grade teaching related arts courses including physical education, health, and career exploration. Over time, her role evolved to include writing and math instruction, and she now teaches math exclusively.

When asked about being selected as Teacher of the Year, Allen described the recognition as both unexpected and meaningful. “It feels great. It was a surprise but a great feeling,” she said.

Her motivation in the classroom comes directly from her students who serve as an inspiration for her profession. “The kids inspire me every day,” Allen explained. “Whether it’s from seeing them getting excited about learning or their successes.” She is especially driven by helping students build a strong foundation for their future careers and lifelong learning.

Colleagues and administrators alike recognize Ms. Allen for her commitment to her students and her profession. “Mrs. Allen establishes strong relationships with students and colleagues and remains dedicated to ongoing professional growth in her teaching practice,” said Assistant Principal Mr. Payne.

Looking ahead, she plans to continue teaching in Gilmer County while furthering her education by pursuing a master’s degree. “I hope to continue showing growth with my kids as well as continuing to grow as a learner to become a better educator,” she said.

Gilmer County Schools congratulates Ms. Morgan Allen on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her dedication to her students, her school, and the future of education in our community. Ms. Allen will now represent Gilmer County High School at the county level for Teacher of the Year.
