Harriet Tubman performer.

Gilmer County High School students were given the opportunity to participate in an interactive History Alive! program today, featuring Harriet Tubman. This program was brought to us by the West Virginia Humanities Council, Voices from the Earth, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery but escaped through the Underground Railroad in 1849. She served as a spy, nurse, scout, and guide for Union troops in the Civil War. Harriet risked her own life over and over to help others find freedom.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Ilene Evans and those that made this educational experience possible!
