We will have a brief meeting after lunch on Thursday, October 31st with a representative from Jostens to discuss how you can order gowns, invitations, and other graduation accessories. The Career Center bus will be held, and we will meet in the commons area for you to receive information and for you to ask questions.

🌍 Geographical adventures in the Potomac Highlands. 🏞️
Mr. Yocum and Mrs. Lora Chapman took Mr. Yocum's Geography Class on an adventure to the beautiful mountains of Tucker, Randolph, and Pendleton Counties this Friday, October 18, 2024.
Students experienced the majestic scenes of Black Waterfalls, Spruce Knob, and the dramatic grandeur of Seneca Rocks. Our young scholars were also able to observe the beautiful colors of the Autumn leaves that our great state of West Virginia has to offer while immersing themselves in a real-world study of Geography.
After a long day of hiking and exploring, the group stopped for a sweet treat at The Donut Spot.

Our Juniors and Seniors had a productive day at the Health Careers and College Expo in Salem, WV. Students engaged with various schools and agencies to explore opportunities in the healthcare field. This experience allowed them to gain valuable insights into the educational pathways and requirements needed to pursue careers in healthcare. ⭐There are a few important reminders for this week⭐
📅 The end of the first nine weeks is Thursday, October 17.
📅The PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors will take place on October 22.
🗳️Voting for Homecoming King and Queen will be on Wednesday, October 9.
🎟️Tickets will be sold at both lunches during Homecoming week. Prices are $7 for single and $12 for a couple. Students must pay their class dues before buying a ticket. See the article for more information about to whom students should pay dues for their grade level.
🏈The Homecoming game vs. Ravenswood will take place on Friday at 7:00 PM. The game will also be livestreamed on Hudl by Titan Nation Live. 🎥
🌭Don't forget to check out the Communities in Schools Community Tailgate from 5:30 to 7:30 PM before the Homecoming game. The Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center will also have a tailgate at 6:00 PM.

🥩 We’re proud to highlight the impressive work of Mr. Cox's animal processing class! They rolled up their sleeves to clean and cut porterhouses and T-bones, creating tender fillets and New York strip steaks. 🥩✨ To top it off, the carcass was aged for 21 days at the customer's request, boosting the flavor and quality of the final product. Attention Juniors and Seniors! Are you a student who is interested in a job in healthcare? Do you wonder what types of jobs might be available in the health care field? If so, you are invited to learn more about the possibilities by attending a Health Occupations Expo on Thursday, October 17th at Salem University in Salem, WV.
If you want to attend, you must have an endorsement by a teacher who can attest to your interest for working in a health care field, and you must be passing and caught up in all your classes.
Sign up/permission slips are available in the office. Permission forms must be returned to Mr. Reed by no later than October 10th. Because we must have an accurate count of the number of students who will be attending the Expo for the organizers of the event, no permission forms will be accepted after October 10th - NO EXCEPTIONS!
We will be stopping at a fast-food restaurant following the Expo for lunch. Please be sure to bring enough money for your lunch and any snacks that you might purchase.

REMINDER for students in grades 9-12: Are you bringing an out-of-county guest to the Homecoming dance? If so, you must turn in a Non-GCHS Dance Guest Application. These forms are available outside of the main office. You must have:
- a picture of your guest
- permission from the guest's principal
- a completed, signed form
These forms are due no later than October 4th, 2024
