Our cafeteria staff has added a new cooler to give students even more options at lunchtime!
Here’s how it works:
- Left side: Choose an item as your entrée in place of the grab-and-go option or the main line.
- Right side: Grab an extra item to add to any meal!
- Salad bar: You can still enjoy the salad bar with your entrée, as always.
We’re excited to offer our Titans more choices to make lunchtime work for them!

There will be a parent meeting tonight at 6:00 PM in the GCHS Commons for any middle school girl interested in playing basketball this season. We hope to see you there! #GoGilmer
Students designed and built cars with one goal: travel the maximum distance when launched with a constant force. They experimented with different variables, including mass distribution, wheel diameter, axle friction, and aerodynamics, to see how each affected their car’s performance.
This activity gave students the opportunity to apply key concepts from their force and motion unit through creativity, problem-solving, and experimentation.
Learning in motion! 🧱#gogilmer #stemeducation #ilovewvpublicschools

🏆 Titan Cross Country Runners Qualify for States! 🏆
We are so proud of our GCHS boys and girls cross country teams! 🏃♀️🏃♂️ Both teams competed in the regional championships this past Saturday, and our Titans gave it their all.
The girls team qualified for the State Cross Country Championships, and Reidyn Dennison qualified individually on the boys side. The boys team came just one runner short of qualifying as a full team.
This is a historic accomplishment for our school, as this is the first time in GCHS history that the entire girls cross country team has qualified for the State Championships! 🎉
Congratulations to all our runners and coaches on an outstanding season and a job well done. We are proud of you!

From October 26–30, keep your eyes open for hidden ghosts throughout the school! Two ghosts will be hidden in the middle school wing and two in the high school wing each day.
Think you’ve found one? Turn it in to Ms. Sponaugle to claim your prize!
New ghosts will be hidden each day, so keep looking, Titans!

At the end of each nine weeks, all students who achieve perfect attendance are entered into a drawing for a prize. For the first nine weeks, 35 middle school students and 20 high school students earned perfect attendance!
Their names were entered into a prize wheel, and congratulations to our winners, Hailey Short and Jayden Tingler! Each student received a $50 gift certificate to the movie theater, thanks to the generous donation from Minnie Hamilton Health System.
Congratulations to Hailey and Jayden, and thank you to Minnie Hamilton for supporting our students!
Regular attendance plays an important role in student success. Please continue encouraging your students to attend school every day!

As they begin their Force and Motion unit, students are investigating five ways to change the motion of an object. Today, they used a variety of manipulatives to explore the cause-and-effect relationship between force and velocity. Their focus was determining how the strength of a force affects the change in velocity of a jar lid.
Check out their investigations below! 🔬⚡

We have a busy week ahead at Gilmer County High School. Here are a few important reminders for students and families:
📕 Report cards will go home Monday. Be sure to ask your student for their red folder, which will contain their report card and other important information.
📸 Lifetouch Senior Pictures will take place on Wednesday, October 21. Seniors should be prepared for their scheduled portrait session.
⏰ Reminder: Updated Morning Tardy Procedures Begin Monday, October 19
To improve the morning arrival process and help students transition smoothly into the school day, Gilmer County High School has updated its tardy schedule:
• Students arriving after 8:02 a.m. will be considered tardy to school.
• Students must be in their first block classroom by 8:05 a.m. to avoid being marked tardy to class.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide a smooth and productive start to each school day.
Have a great week, Titans!

Students learned about technology as one of West Virginia's fastest-growing career fields and explored the wide variety of job opportunities available right here in the Mountain State. They also got some hands-on experience with VR headsets, taking virtual tours of West Virginia college campuses and employers while getting a glimpse of where their education and future careers could take them.
