Are you a student who is interested in a job in healthcare? Do you wonder what types of jobs might be available in the health care field? If so, Juniors and Seniors who are interested in learning more about possible jobs in health care are invited to attend a Health Occupations Expo on Thursday, November 9th in Roanoke, WV.
If you want to attend, you must have an endorsement by a teacher who can attest to your interest for working in a health care field, and you must be passing and caught up in all your classes.
Sign up/permission slips are available in the office. Permission forms must be returned to Mr. Reed by no later than November 1st, 2023. Because we must have an accurate count of the number of students who will be attending the Expo for the organizers of the event, no permission forms will be accepted after November 1st.
We will be stopping at a fast-food restaurant following the Expo for lunch. Please be sure to bring enough money for your lunch and any snacks that you might purchase.
More details about the trip will be available as we get closer to the date.
What is "chronic absenteeism"?
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing ten percent or more of the academic year for any reason, including excused absences, unexcused absences, and suspensions.
Based on a 180-day school year, that means approximately 18 days per year or 2 to 3 days per month. Students who are chronically absent tend to show lower academic achievement in English and Math, higher drop-out rates, and school disengagement.
If your student(s) fall within this category, please reach out to Communities In Schools and allow us to help you get them back on track for a more successful school year!

🌍 Geographical Discoveries in the Heart of West Virginia 🏞️
Mr. Yocum and Mrs. Howes took their Geography Class on an adventure to the beautiful mountains of Tucker, Randolph, and Pendleton Counties this Friday, October 13, 2023.
Students experienced the majestic scenes of Black Water Falls, Spruce Knob, and the dramatic grandeur of Seneca Rocks. Our young scholars were also able to observe the beautiful colors of the Autumn leaves that our great state of West Virginia has to offer while immersing themselves in a real-world study of Geography.
After a long day of hiking and exploring, the group stopped for a sweet treat at The Donut Shop!

We would like to wish our Gilmer County Marching Titans GOOD LUCK tomorrow as they compete at the Ripley Vikingfest competition tomorrow morning.
The GCHS Marching Titan Band competed this past Saturday at the Winfield High School Marching Band Invitational in Class D.
The Titans battled scorching sun and wind to deliver an exhilarating performance.
The band placed 3rd overall in class D. Among other awards, Drum Major Mariah Putnam was awarded 2nd place drum major! Putnam has showcased great leadership and professionalism as Field Commander this season.
The Titans, although small, got the crowd to cheer, dance, and share in their mighty musicianship.
Miss Koutsunis says “Being the smallest band has no measure on our abilities to deliver a high-quality performance on the field. We went out there and laid it all on the line. We did well and walked away with more than just trophies and good memories- we walked away with feedback on how to improve and a vision for the future. A lot of people would laugh at the sight of a small band, but- they don’t know the GCHS Marching Titans. They’re a powerhouse, they’re wonderful students, and they’re going to show the world of marching band how it’s done. “
