Off to Virginia Beach and Busch Gardens! We wish safe travels to our seniors and their chaperones on their senior trip excursion. 🏖

Our middle school students had a blast at "The Hangout" this week! Students played pool, arcade games, and enjoyed camaraderie with their friends as a reward for good attendance this year.

GCHS gave the state track meet qualifiers a Gilmer County send-off this morning! Students gathered on the front steps of the school and cheered our track athletes as they departed for Charleston. Thanks to the Gilmer County VFD and the local police department for the escort. Let's go, Titans!

7th and 8th grade students went on a field trip to The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia in Charleston, WV today. The students enjoyed a variety of educational activities and had a blast doing it! Throughout the day they watched a film about Dinosaurs of Antarctica in the planetarium, completed a fossil expedition in the STEAM lab, and visited the museum's various interactive exhibits, such as the "medieval to metal" guitar exhibit. The Clay Center's staff was very complimentary of how respectful and conscientious our students were while within the facility.

From the Nurse's corner: Parents and guardians, the end of the school year is near! Kindly remember to collect your student's medication on their last day of school. Any medications left at the school after the end of the school year will be discarded.

Seniors at GCHS enjoyed a cookout lunch to celebrate the impending end of the year! Students enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, and other cookout staples. Thanks to Mr. Nick Cox for running the grill as well as our kitchen staff for making this happen!

Additionally, expect a couple of special guests in the last piece, which was arranged by our very own Miss K! This ensemble earned a superior rating at the WV Region II Ratings Festival this spring, so get ready for an evening to remember!

STEAM EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT!
Last week, seventh and eighth grade students created probability games and hosted a math carnival for grades 2-5 at GCES. Students learned mathematical principles from both building and playing the games, as they were designed to demonstrate the impact of probability on a given outcome. We are proud of our students for developing such fun and innovative ways to learn math!

Your week at a glance: Titan Connect!

On Wednesday and Thursday, GCHS students and the local Girl Scout Troop were invited to attend the 2nd Annual Freedom Concert, which commemorates May 5th as the end of German occupation of the Netherlands during WWII and the role that America played in that liberation. Students, in conjunction with the American Rosie Movement, listened to the bells of the Netherlands Carillon — a 127-foot-tall musical monument. Speakers included Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, Ambassador André Haspels, and our very own Mrs. Ronni Facemire.
After the concert, students went on an educational tour of the various monuments and sights in the area.
A full press release is forthcoming early next week!
