Our 6th grade students recently held a car wash and bake sale fundraiser to help offset their class dues for the school year! The fundraiser was a great success, and we’re so proud of our students for their hard work and effort.

The MTVB game at Wirt that was scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for October 8, 2026.
Gilmer County Schools will operate on a 2-hr delay for Monday, September 21.

Yesterday, September 16th, our 6th grade students got to take their learning to the next level as they explored solar and lunar eclipses with GSU teacher education candidate, Ms. Casto!
Our students have been learning all about the Earth, Moon, and Sun system and how their positions help create the different phases of the Moon.
The Starlab was the perfect way to wrap up their unit! Students got an immersive look at these amazing celestial events and a chance to see what they've been learning in class come to life.
We love finding fun, hands-on ways to make learning memorable! 💫

The parade will be held Friday, Oct. 2, at 1:00 p.m. with this year’s theme:
🎩 “Welcome to Titanville” 🎩
Think all things Dr. Seuss as you put together your parade entry! Our Titans will take on the Ritchie County Rebels later that evening.
Line up will begin at 11:30 AM, and assignments will be provided when you arrive. We line up on college boulevard.
Entries may include walking groups, floats/trailers, decorated vehicles, emergency vehicles, horses, and more. Entries will be judged during the parade based on originality, theme, and overall appearance, with winners announced during the Homecoming football game.

Tutoring is available for students in Grades 6th through 12th, Mondays through Thursdays until 5:45pm. Teachers work with students on assignments that students need to complete for classwork, homework or projects. Please call the high school if you have any questions: 304.462.7960.
Students in grades 9–12 may bring an out-of-school guest to the GCHS Homecoming Dance. Students planning to bring a guest must complete and return the Non-GCHS Dance Guest Application to the high school office by Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Science in Action: Part V! 🔬
Our students in Mrs. Ramezan's class continued their exploration of cellular respiration by investigating the amount of energy stored in some of their everyday snacks!
Students first made predictions about which snack they thought would provide the most energy and discussed whether that energy would be enough to support our day-to-day activities, especially for athletes with higher energy demands.
Using nutritional labels and precise measurements, students determined the mass and serving size of each sample and calculated the calories per gram, or energy yield. They then modeled how our bodies break down food during cellular respiration and observed how energy is released in the process.
To bring the concept to life, students also modeled the release of thermal energy using water, giving them a hands-on way to see how the energy stored in food can be transformed and released.
Another great example of students connecting biology, chemistry, and everyday life through hands-on science! 🧪

Students will walk to and from the parade with their homeroom teachers and will be supervised throughout the activity. Yesterday, homeroom teachers sent home the GCHS Homecoming Parade Form, which must be returned by Friday, September 25 2026.
Please evaluate the options on the form carefully, as it will allow you to indicate whether you/your child:
➡️Will remain on campus and not participate
➡️Will walk to the parade with their HR teacher and return afterward
➡️Will walk to... and be signed out following the parade
➡️Is a parade participant who will be transported to the parade lineup and will walk back with their HR teacher

Students studied catalase, an enzyme found in yeast, and explored how temperature affects enzyme activity. They exposed the yeast to four different temperature conditions, then combined the yeast with hydrogen peroxide and measured the height of the foam produced as an indicator of enzyme efficiency.
A great opportunity for students to connect what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world biological processes through hands-on investigation!

Students in Mrs. Ramezan’s class continued their investigation of the microscopic world by examining microorganisms found in three different yogurt samples to determine which sample contained the greatest number of microorganisms. Using a microcentrifuge, students separated the samples into distinct layers, including a pellet and supernatant.
Students then extracted microorganisms from the pellet layer and prepared microscope slides to observe living, moving microorganisms under the microscope. GCHS will offer tutoring afterschool this school year. If your student needs to stay and work on classwork, homework or projects, a teacher will be available, Mondays-Thursdays, until-5:45pm. Activity buses will run the main routes, Rt. 33 and Rt. 5, to deliver students after tutoring is over each evening. Tutoring will begin on Tuesday, September 8th at GCHS. Please call the school if you have any questions.
Regular school attendance is one of the most important things families can do to support their child's success. Being at school each day helps students stay connected, keep up with learning, build strong relationships, and develop habits that will benefit them for years to come.
