We are delighted to welcome a cohort of fresh as well as familiar individuals to the corridors of both GCHS and GCES! Take this opportunity to acquaint yourself with our new personnel.
Attention Parents/Guardians:
If your child has a positive home test for COVID and isn't too sick to need a visit to their healthcare provider, please send a parent note that includes a COVID diagnosis and get in touch with your child's teachers. As long as the student tries to keep up with their schoolwork, this absence will be marked as virtual/COVID and won't be counted as a parental excuse.
If the student is NOT well enough to engage in some academic work, they should see their provider and obtain a provider excuse.
For further guidance, please refer to the attached document from the West Virginia Department of Education.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and healthy.

GCS staff participated in this morning's inaugural session for the 2023-2024 academic year. Superintendent Dr. Minney delivered remarks that showcased his enthusiasm for the upcoming school year and illustrated the new county mission statement: Empower, Inspire, Engage. Principals Tyson Price and Brandon Payne introduced new staff members and shared their excitement for students to return to school next Thursday.
The highlight of the event was an inspiring presentation delivered by Rodney Robinson, the distinguished recipient of the 2019 National Teacher of the Year award. Mr. Robinson took the audience through an inspiring narrative, detailing the transformational odyssey of the Virgie Binford Education Center – a journey that elevated it from closure to attaining the esteemed status of the top educational institution in the entire state.
During his address, Mr. Robinson underscored the pivotal role of forging meaningful connections, embracing the principles of restorative justice, and diligently catering to the diverse needs of students. These pillars, he stressed, are instrumental in cultivating an environment that inherently fosters favorable educational outcomes and nurtures a culture of positive learning.
